let x="width of uniform strip", so the rug length is 12-2x and the width is 10-2x

using the area __ (12-2x)(10-2x)=80 __ 120-44x+4x^2=80 __ 30-11x+x^2=20

x^2-11x+10=0 __ (x-10)(x-1)=0
