"Find two consecutive, negative integers whose product is 156." Could you please help me?
----------------------
Let the 1st be "x"; the 2nd would be "x+1".
EQUATION:
x(x+1) = 156
x^2+x-156 = 0
x = [-1 +- sqrt(1-4*1*-156)]/2
x = [-1 +- sqrt(625)]/2
x = [-1 +- 25]/2
Negative soution:
x = (-1-25)/2 = -13 (1st negative integer)
x+1 = -12 (2nd negative integer)
