Question 1178742: My son is learning factoring polynomials and he would appreciate your help in clarifying this.
He would like to know if he factored the polynomial correctly and if his GCF is correct.
Please Note : I posted this problem previously but the formatting is wrong and the problem may present incorrectly.
- 14x^3 + 42x ( rewritten in standard form)

GCF = - 14x

Answer by Theo(13342)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
you can factor out an x and you can factor out 14.
not changed to proper form, the answer would be:
14x * (3 - x^2)
changing it so that the terms are in descending order of degree gets you:
-14x^2 + 42x becomes -14x * (x^2 - 3).
looks good to me.
