multiply both sides by 2

subtract 3 from both sides

square both sides
9 - 4(k-2) = 121
-4k + 8 = 121 - 9
-4k = 112 - 8
-4k = 104
k = 104/-4
k = -26

The EASIEST way to solve it is to substitute x= -4 into the equation and use the fact that "-4" is the root:


4^2 - 3*(-4) + k - 2 = 0


16 + 12 + k - 2 = 0


k + 26 = 0


k = -26.      ANSWER
