Question 114313: decompose into a partial fraction
5x+7/x^2+2x-3

Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
decompose into a partial fraction
5x+7/x^2+2x-3
= (5x+7)/[(x+3)(x-1)]
----------------------------
Let (5x+7)/[(x+3)(x-1)] = A/(x+3) + B/(x-1)
= [A(x-1)+B(x+3)]/ ...
= [(A+B)x +(-A+3B)]/...
---------------------------
EQUATION:
A+B = 5
-A+3B = 7
--------
Add to get:
4B = 12
B = 3
------------
Substitute to solve for A:
A + 3 = 5
A = 2
