Answer by JBmath26(1) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If you know how to do a simple problem such as (x + 2)(x - 1), then you know how to do this one: F O I L (First, Outer, Inner, Last). Here we go:
[(1/5)a + (2/3)][(1/5)a - (1/6)]
First: [(1/5)a][(1/5)a] = (1/25)a^2
Outer: [(1/5)a][-(1/6)] = -(1/30)a
Inner: [(2/3)][(1/5)a] = (2/15)a
Last: [(2/3)][-(1/6)] = -(2/18) = -(1/9) <--ALWAYS Simplify
Now, collect all like terms, which, in this problem, are your answers from the "Outer" and the "Inner":
-(1/30)a + (2/15)a <-- You need a common denominator to add fractions.
-(1/30)a + (4/30)a = (3/30)a = (1/10)a <--Again, Simplify
Final answer: (1/25)a^2 + (1/10)a - (1/9) <--You're done =)
