Question 109196: I need help solving this equation:
5 over y - 3 = y + 7 over 2y - 6 plus 1

Answer by edjones(8007)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!

5(2y-6)=(y+7)(y-3)+(y-3)(2y-6) multiply each side by (y-3)(2y-6) to eliminate fractions.
10y-30=y^2+4y-21+2y^2-12y+18
10y-30=3y^2-8y-3
3y^2-18y-27=0
3(y^2-6y-9)=0
(y-3)(y-3)=0
y=3
Since y=3 causes division by zero in the original equation there is no answer.
