Question 1075497: You are building a multi-level deck. The area of Level 1 deck is x feet times 10+(x-12) feet. The area of level 2 deck is x feet times (x-12) feet.
1.) Write a polynomial that represents the area of each level.
2.) Write a polynomial that represents the total area of the deck.
3.) What is the total area of the deck when x=20?
4.) A gallon of deck sealant covers 400 square feet. How many gallons of sealant do you need to cover the deck once? Explain.

Answer by Boreal(15235)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Level 1; x and 10+x-12=x and x-2, and that area is x^2-2x.
Level 2: x(x-12)=x^2-12x
Total area is their sum: 2x^2-14x
When x=20, the area is 2*20^2-14(20)=520 ft^2.
520/400=1.3 gallons.
