SAM LIVES ON A LOT THAT HE THOUGHT WAS A SQUARE, 157 FEET BY 157 FEET. WHEN HE HAD IT SURVEYED, HE DISCOVERED THAT ONLY ONE SIDE WAS ACTUALLY 2 FEET LONGER THAN HE THOUGHT AND THE OTHER WAS ACTUALLY TWO FEET SHORTER THAN HE THOUGHT. HOW MUCH LESS AREA DOES HE HAVE THAN HE THOUGHT HE HAD?

Ok he thought it was 157 feet by 157 feet.
So the area would be
Now when he had it surveyed he found that one side was actually 2 feet longer
So that would be 157 + 2 = 159
and the other side was actually 2 feet shorter
so that would be 157 - 2 = 155
So based on the survey the actual area of the lot is

Ok so,
How much less area does he have than he thought he had?
Just subtract the area he thought from the actual area
24649 - 24645 = 4
Answer: Sam has less area than he thought
