Technically speaking
x^4 + 5/x + 7
is NOT a polynomial, and thus NOT a trinomial. Some texts speak strictly of any three terms constituting a trinomial, but it is certainly not a polynomial.
This is because the middle term has an exponent on the x of -1. It has to be 0,1,2,3, etc...
