Hi there,
Make height = 'x'
Base = 3 + x
Area of triangle = 1/2 (base x height)
44 = 1/2((3 + x)* x) (* = times)
44 = 1/2(3x + x^2)
Multiply both sides by 2
88 = 3x + x^2
x^2 + 3x - 88 = 0
Factorise
(x + 11)(x - 8) = 0
x + 11 = 0
x = -11 (Disregard as negative)
x - 8 = 0
x = 8
Height = 8 cm
Base = 11 cm
