13/12 is the arithemetic mean is a & b, and a is recipocal of b.then find a & b.
Solution,
13/12 is the arithemetic mean is a & b
(a + b)/2 = 13/12
a + b = 13/6 ----(1)
a is recipocal of b
a = 1/b ----(2)
substitute (2) into (1)
[(1/b) + b = 13/6] x 6b
6 + 6b^2 = 13b
6b^2 - 13b + 6 = 0
(2b-3)(3b-2) = 0
b = 3/2 and 2/3
when b = 3/2, a = 2/3 <---answer
when b = 2/3, a = 3/2 <---answer
