The golden cut or rule is a number. This number is ~ 1.618 and can be found after factoring the following quadratic:
x^2 - 1x - 1 = 0
The two answers are:
%281+%2B-+sqrt%285%29%29%2F2
this gives us the decimals
x ~ 1.618
or
x ~ -.618
If one side of a house is 50 ft. then the other side would be
50*1.618 = 80.902
