A net is a 2 dimensional representation of a 3 dimensional object - polyhedron. We can find areas and surface areas of these net fairly easily using formulas.

apparently a net is how you would construct the polyhedron.

you can calculate the area of each face and then add them up to get the surface area of the polyhedron.
