Question 934779: The following figure shows a type of bridge truss called a Baltimore truss. If members line SC, line RU, and line QD must be parallel and if line SR = line RQ, what other members must have the same length by Theorem 5.32? (Note Theorem 5.32 states: If three parallel lines form congruent segments on one transversal, then they form congruent segments on any transversal.)

Answer: line CU = line UQ
I just figured that I needed to stay on the same side of the bridge or transversal. But should I go further? And I'm not sure how to fully explain why only these two lines are the other members why not the others.
Please HELP!!!

Answer by Theo(13342)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!

your proof can only involve any line that transverss the same parallel lines.
the only line that qualifies is CQ.

in fact, if the bridge is designed so that the same rules apply to all the trusses, then you can extend the logic to the rest of the bridge, but you were not given that and so you can't assume it.
