since the perimiter is the length around an object and the length of the bigger side is 10 ft and there are two bigger sides and two smaller sides because a rectangle has four sides this means you would add 10+10 and that gives you 20! so then since the perimiter is 30 you would do 30-20 which gives us 10 feet that are not accounted for in the perimiter so far. We have counted the two bigger sides and so now we need to add the two smaller sides to get 30. we were left with 10 and since we have 2 sides of the rectangle unaccounted for we do 10/2 which gives us 5!! So, 5 is our width. We can check our work by adding all of the sides lengths together and we should get 30. Lets check...
