Hi,
Let h represent its height ⇒ b = (h-7)
A =
h^2 - 7h - 1394 = 0 Factor
(h - 41)(x+34) = 0 (Tossing out the negative solution for unit measure)
h = 41 in

Let height= h=x inches
base=b=x-7 inches
area of triangle = 697 square inches
(1/2)*b*h = 697
1/2 * x-7 * x = 697
x^2-7x = 1394
x^2 - 7x - 1394=0
solve this quadratic equation , find the roots of x. Then substitute in the base.
