Question 769703: In a triangle abc, de are midpoints. d is between ab, e is between ac. de=5. what is bc?
Answer by Cromlix(4381) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You are now considering two similar
triangles: AED and ACB.
Due to E and D being midpoints
AE = AD = EC = DB
If we give all these portions
a value of 1 unit, then we can use
AE/AC = ED/CB
1/2 = 5/x
Cross multiply
x = 10
So the size of BC = 10.
Hope this helps
