Question 627437: hi! i tried solving this using a calculator but it was a no go. can someone help me?: A 90 cm pipe was cut into two pieces so that one piece is 6 cm shorter than the other. Find the length of each piece.
if someone could show me how its done, that'd be great ^.^
Answer by jim_thompson5910(35256) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let x = length of first piece and y be length of the second (longer) piece
The pipe is 90 cm, so
"one piece is 6 cm shorter than the other.", so
Now use these equations to find x and y.
So the first piece is 42 cm
and the second piece is 48 cm
