Question 59421: Find an equation for the line with y-intercept 3 that is perpendicular to the line y=2/3x-4.
Answer by uma(370) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The given line is y = (2/3)x - 4
Slope of this line = 2/3 [m is the slope in y = mx + c]
Slope of the line perpendicular to this line is (-1) / (2/3)
[Product of the slopes of perpendicular lines is -1]
So slope of the required line = -3/2
y intercept = 3
The equation of the line is y = mx + c
==> y = (-3/2)x +3
==> 2y = -3x + 6 [multiplying by 2 throughout]
==> 3x + 2y = 6 [adding 3x to both the sides of the equation]
Good Luck!!!
