The perimeter of a triangle is 47 meters. The longest side is 3 times the shortest side. The third side is 2 meters shorter than the longest side. How long is each side?
Let x be the length of the shortest side. Then the three sides are x, 3x and 3x-2.
The perimeter is 47 so:
x + 3x + (3x-2) = 47
Solve the above equation for x and then calculate 3x and 3x-2.
