Question 908839: how many students must be in a room to be sure that at least twelve are boys or at least twelve are girls
Answer by Edwin McCravy(20055)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If there were only 22 students in the room, the only way 12 of them
could not be the same gender is for there to be exactly 11 boys and
11 girls.

BUT...

if we put one more student in that room, making it 23 students, then
regardless of whether that 23rd student is a boy or a girl, there must
be at least 12 of the same gender.

Answer: 23
