Question 882738: The range rule of thumb can be used to estimate the standard deviation of a distribution. If the minimum value in a data set is 400 and the maximum value is 1200, what is the standard deviation.
Answer by ewatrrr(24785) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
one standard deviation from the mean accounts for about 68% of the set
two standard deviations from the mean account for about 95%
and three standard deviations from the mean account for about 99.7%.
400 < x < 1200
800/4 = 200
Sd = 200 would account for 95% (2 SD from mean = 800)
