Mr. Lee bought 6 new pants and 7 new
shirts. Now he needs to buy new ties.
Mr. Lee wants to be able to wear a
different combination of one pant, one
shirt, and one tie every day for one
year. What is the minimum number of
ties he should buy?
Answer by richard1234(7193) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Why are you using 7!, 6! and dividing them? Ask yourself that first. The correct solution involves no factorials.
If Mr. Lee buys t ties, the number of pants-shirt-tie combinations is 6*7*t = 42t. We want 42t >= 365, and the smallest integer t such that the inequality is true is t = 9.
