Question 781389: OUT OF 8 LADIES AND 7 GENTS, 3 LADIES AND 4 GENTS ARE SELECTED FOR A COMMITTEE. PROVIDED THAT MRS. X WILL NOT JOIN COMMITTEE IF MR. X JOINS THE COMMITTEE.
THEN IN HOW MANY WAYS THE SELECTION IS POSSIBLE ???
Answer by edjones(8007) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
8C3 * 7C4 = 1960 combinations if there were no Mr & Mrs x problems.
But there are! 4/7 of the time Mr x will be selected and 3/8 of that time Mrs x will also be selected.
4/7 * 3/8 = 12/56 = 3/14 of the time there will be the x problem. 11/14 of the time no problem. 11/14 * 1960 = 1540.
