A round table confrence is to be held between 20 delegates of 2 countries.in how many ways can they be seated if two particular delegates are:
(a) always together
Treat those two as a unit that can be arranged in 2 ways.
There are now 19 units: they can be arranged is 18! ways

Total arrangements:: 18!*2 = 1.28x10^16 arrangements

(b) never together.
There are 2*19 ways they could sit together.

Tatal arrangements = 19!-2*19 = = 19(18!-2) = 1.22x10^17 arrangements
