Assuming english alphabet and lower case and upper case count as one, then you have 26 letters.
So how many ways can you use 9 different letters?
First letter can be anyone of the 26.
The second one can't duplicate the first, so there are 25 you could choose
then 24, 23, 22, 21 ...
