Surely, the correct answer is   =  = 7*3 = 21.

The subject you chose for this post was "permutations".

The other tutor supplied a response as if it were in fact permutations -- that is, as if the ORDER in which the 5 different restaurants are chosen Monday to Friday is important.

However, in the text of your post, you ask how many COMBINATIONS there are of 5 of the 7 restaurants, indicating it doesn't matter which restaurant you go to on which day. That number is "7 choose 5":
