Use a calculator if necessary; many good calculators (like the TI83) have functions built in to calculate "n choose r" numbers.
To do the calculation manually, note that 23 choose 20 is the same as 23 choose 3 (the coach is choosing 3 of the 23 to NOT be on the team). Then the calculation is
