The second stripe many not match the first colour. The bottom colour may not match the second, but may match the first. How many distinct pairs of socks could Barb make?

There are 6 ways to choose the top color and then, for each of those 6 ways, there are 5 ways to choose the second color. Hence, 30 ways to choose the first two colors. Then for each of those 30 ways, there are again 5 ways to choose the last color.
