Question 149673: Sonja earned $50,000 as an accountant in 1999. Due to the recession, she agreed to a 20 % cut in salary for 2000. In 2001 the economy improved, and her salary was restored to it's original 1999 level. What percent raise did Sonja get in 2001?
So , I thought this was sort of self explanitory and that the answer would be 20% but the book says it's 25%. This is probably really simple but I can not figure it out.

Use algebraic techniques to solve rate problems and percent problems:
1.) Five tables and eight chairs cost $115; three tables and five chairs cost $70. Determine the cost of each table and each chair?
2.)A merchant sold his entire stock of shirts and ties for $1000, the shirts being priced at 3 for $10 and the ties at $2 each. If he sold 1/2 of the shirts and 2/3 of the ties he would have collected $600. How many of each kind did he sell?
3.)Determine the speed of a motorboat in still water and the speed of the river current, if it takes 3 hr to travel a distance of 45 mi upstream and 2 hr to travel 50 mi downstream?

Question 151482: Please help me solve these problems. I did them but the answer I'm getting seems way off.
Apply algebraic techniques to solve rate problems and percent problems:
4,) A painter can do a given job in 6 hours. Her helper can do the same job in 10 hours. The painter begins the work and after two hours is joined by the helper. In how many hours will they complete the job?
5.) One group of workers can do a job in 8 days. After this group has worked 3 days, another group joins it and together they complete the job in 3 more days. In what time could the second group complete the job alone?
6.)What weight of water must be evaporated from 40lb of a 20% of salt solution to produce 50% solution? All percentages are by weight.
