Joe is working at Big Beefy Burgers. He recently received a salary increase of 3.5%, his new salary is 42,000 a year. What was his salary before the increase?
I solved this question approximately using the check and guess system. I did: 40500* 1.035, then I did: 40550*1.035 then 40570*1.035 then 40580* 1.035. So the approximate answer is 40580, but is there an easier, exact way to answer this question.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as this question just ticks me off. I feel there must be a better way.
