I tried .08x + .10(7200-x) = 7200 and that did not work. Having a tough time coming up with the equation that will allow me to solve this word problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Question 448085: the sales price of a car is $12,590, which is 20% off the original price. What is the original price?
I tried multiplying 20% of the sales price and adding it back on but since the price given is already 20% off it would not be correct. So I need to find 20% of what amount is $12,590 but not sure what formula to use!
Also, If Sally can paint a house in 4 hours and John can paint the same house in 6 hours, how long will it take for both of them to paint the house together? I know it will be less that 4 and more than 2 but not sure of what formula to use!

I plan on being a substance abuse counselor, which is pretty far from mathematician, and I have to make up a problem that relates to my future profession. This is what I came up with. Can this be put into some algebraic sense or is it futile?
If an alcoholic drinks 36oz. of beer containing 0.05% alcohol within 45 minutes, while another drinks 2, 10oz glasses of cheap wine containing 14% alcohol in 30 minutes. Which alcoholic has consumed the largest percentage of alcohol? Was there any time when the 2 drinkers had the same amount of alcohol at the same amount of time?
