Question 998122: A box full of nails has a certain weight. If 3kgof nails are removed, the ratio of the old weight is 5:4. What is the original weight of the box?
Answer by fractalier(6550)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Call the original weight x.
Thus the ratio of the old weight to the new weight is

This equals 5/4.
So
x/(x-3) = 5/4
so that
4x = 5(x-3)
4x = 5x - 15
-x = -15
x = 15
