that means that 85 - 17 = 68 people did not get an A.

the fraction of people who did not get an A is equal to the number of people who did not get an A divided by the total number of people who took the exam.

that fraction is 68 / 85 = 4 / 5

finding the greatest common denominator was tricky because you had to go all the way up to 17 to find it.

4 * 17 = 68
5 * 17 = 85
