lets try this with some values,
let b = no. of boys in the x school
let g = no. of girls
x = 360 total students in x school
then
b + g = 360
given statement
b = 1.4g
Replace b with 1.4g
1.4g + g = 360
2.4g = 360
g = 360/2.4
g = 150 girls in x school
and
360 - 150 = 210 boys in x school

let f = no. of girls in school y
.5(210) = .7f
105 = .7f
f = 105/.7
