Hi there,
the numerator of a certain fraction is 5 times the denominator
Make the denominator = 'x'
= 5x/x
if 6 is added to both the numerator and the denominator,
the result fraction is equivalent to 2.
5x + 6/x + 6 = 2/1
Cross multiply
2(x + 6) = 5x + 6
2x + 12 = 5x + 6
Collect like terms.
2x - 5x = 6 - 12
-3x = - 6
x = 2
Original fraction
= 10/2
Hope this helps :-)
