Question 988655: A doctor prescribes an ointment that is 4% hydrocortisone. A pharmacist has 1% and 5% concentrations in stock. How many ounces of each should the pharmacist use to make a 5-ounce tube?
Answer by Boreal(15235)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x=number of ounces o 1%
5-x=number of ounces of 5%
.01x+ 0.05 (5-x)=5*0.04=0.20
.01x + 0.25-0.05x=0.20
-0.04x= -0.05
4x=5
x=1.25 ounces of 1%
5-x=3.75 ounces of 5%
