I think you mean:
20% were children, 50% were men, and 12 were women.
Since 70% were men and children, the other 30% must be women, so:
12/0.30=40 There were 40 passengers total. 20% were children, so:
(0.20)(40)=8
ANSWER: There were 8 children on the bus.
