Question 981391: HHow can I work out the multiplier for decreasing by 30%
Answer by macston(5194) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
.
Original number-((original number)(percent change/100%)}=decreased number
.
Percent is per 100, so we divide the percent (30%) by 100% and multiply by the original amount to get the decrease (or increase). To get the decreased number, we subtract this from the original (for increase we add).
.
Let x=original number:
x-((x)(30%/100%))=decreased number
x-(0.30x)=decreased number
.
-OR-
.
Since we decrease 100% by 30% (100%-30%) we are left with 70%. Again we divide by 100 (per cent=per 100) and get 0.70. So 0.70 x the original number=number decreased by 30%.
.
Let x=original number:
Number decreased by 30%=((100%-30%))(x)/100%=(0.70)(x)
