Question 94239: Hello Tutor,
Thank you for taking your time to help me with my geometry. I really only need to know how to start this question. If you have it on file, it tells you to give a guess and check table, but my teacher told us not to use it. The ratio of boys to girls is 6:7 in high school. If there are 1,352 students, how many are girls and how many are boys in this high school?
The ISBN is 1-885145-53-5. It is a second edition Geometry textbook. The question is PR-31 in chapter 0.
Thanks again,
Mily

The ratio of boys to girls is 6:7 in high school. If there are 1,352 students, how many are girls and how many are boys in this high school?
---------------
6:7 is the same as 6x:7x where 6x is the # of boys and 7x is the # of girls.
--------------
EQUATION:
6x + 7x = 1352
13x = 1352
x = 104
6x = 624 is the # of boys
7x= 728 is the # of girls.
