Question 942208: Kay brought 1/2 or her birthday cake to share with friends. She shared it equally between 7 friends. what fraction of the whole cake did each friend received? Draw a picture to solve it.
Would I include Kay and divide cake in 8 parts and multiply by 2 for the other half of the cake and get 1/16 eaten by each friend or 1/14 without Kay.
Answer by josmiceli(19441) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
I think because it says she "shared" the 1/2 cake that
Kay will get a slice too
That means the 1/2 cake gets divided into 8 pieces
---------------------
I just imagine that the other 1/2 of the cake gets
divided into 8 slices also.
That means each slice is 1/16 of the whole cake
---------------
Hope I got it- it doesn't say that she ate a piece and
then shared the rest with her friends
