let x be the no of plums that sarah had initially
she gave 1/3 of her plums to peter
Hence peter received 1/3 of x plums

remaining plums =
=
jessica received x/6 no of plums
Jessica kept 5

hence

x= 48
no of plums ate by pete = x/6
= 48/6
= 8
