Question 937257: 2 1/2 busloads of students are going on a trip, if 3/5 of the students are girls, how many buses are need to take only the girls?
Answer by josmiceli(19441) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If you doubled the number of buses, but kept the ratio
of ( girls ) / ( total students ) = , then you have:
buses
of the buses needed for just girls
------------------------------------
Now you have to scale this back down by
1 1/2 buses are needed for just girls
-----------------
Suppose there are students
girls
------------------
Putting girls in 1 1/2 buses, I have
filling 1 bus
in the bus
------------------------
That leaves boys
boys fill 1 bus
= 2 1/2 buses
OK
