Question 935163: A has 20% more more money than B, and C has 20% less money than B. what percent more money does A have than C ?
Answer by Theo(13342) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let A represent the amount of money that A has.
let B represent the amount of money that B has.
let C represent the amount of money that C has.
A = B + .20 * B = 1.20 * B
C = B - .20 * B = .8 * B
A / C = (1.20 * B) divided by (.8 * B) which is equal to 1.20 / .8 which is equal to 1.5
A has 1.5 * the amount of money that C has.
1.5 * C - C is equal to .5 * C.
A has 50% more money than C has.
let's see how this works out.
Assume that B has 100 dollars.
then:
A has 120 dollars.
C has 80 dollars.
A - C = 120 - 80 = 40
this means that A has 40 dollars more than C.
40 / 80 = .5 = 50%
this means that A has 50% more dollars than C has.
