Answer by Theo(13342) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x + .25 * x = 1.25 * x = 5
divide both sides by 1.25 to get x a= 4
y - .10y = .9y = 9
divide both sides by .9 to get y = 10.
your original fraction is 4/10 which can be simplified to 2/5.
multiply 4 by 1.25 and you get 5
multiply 10 by .9 and you get 9
your new fraction is 5/9.
