Question 890892: If the side of a square is increased by 20%, then its area is increased by what percentage?
Answer by JulietG(1812)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
10 * 10 = 100, increased by 20%: 12 * 12 = 144. The area increased by 44%
Let's see if this holds for other numbers
15 * 15 square has an area of 225
Increase it by 20% and you have a square 18 * 18.
18 * 18 = 324
324 is what % of 225? 334/225 = 1.44. Yep, 44%.
.
