Question 884818: If a town having a population of 5000 in 1971 has a 20% increase every five years what is its expected population in the year 2001?
Answer by JulietG(1812)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1971 = 5000
1976 = 5000 * 1.2 = 6000
1981 = 6000 * 1.2 = 7200
1986 = 7200 * 1.2 = 8640
1991 = 8640 * 1.2 = 10368
1996 = 10368 * 1.2 = 12441.6 -- but you can't have of a person, so 12442
2001 = 12442 * 1.2 = 14930.4 -- same thing. No of a person, so 14931
.
If you didn't round the 1996 data, the 2001 becomes 14929.92.
