Question 854617: There were some beans in Jars A, B and C. Jar A contained 20% of the total number of beans. The ratio of the number of beans in Jar B to the total number of beans in Jars A and C was 2:1. There were 152 more beans in Jar B than C. How many beans were there in Jar A? How many beans were there in the three jars altogether?

There were some beans in Jars A, B and C. Jar A contained 20% of the total number of beans. The ratio of the number of beans in Jar B to the total number of beans in Jars A and C was 2:1. There were 152 more beans in Jar B than C. How many beans were there in Jar A? How many beans were there in the three jars altogether?
------
Equations:
Let x be the total number of beans.
A = 0.2x
C = B-152
B = 2(A+C) = 2A+2C = 0.4x + 2C = 0.4x+2(B-152) = 0.4x+2B-304
So B = 0.4x + 2B - 304
Then 0.4x + B - 304 = 0
B = 304-0.4x
-----------------------
A + B + C = x
0.2x + (304-0.4x) + ((304-0.4x)-152) = x
-0.6x +304+152 = 0
-0.6x + 456 = 0
x = 760 beans
----
Jar A has 0.2x = 152 beans
--------------------------------
