Question 833047: Pete had received grades of 76%, 83%, 93% on three algebra tests. What would he have to average on the next two tests so that his overall average on the five tests would be 90%?
Answer by JulietG(1812) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
76 + 83 + 93 + x + x = 90*5 (there are 5 scores and 90 is the targeted average)
252 + 2x = 450
Subtract 252 from each side
2x = 198
Divide each side by 2
x = 99
.
It's doubtful Pete can recover from that first score :-(
